PLANNING Domain 1 INSTRUCTION Domain 2 LEARNING ENVIRONMENT Domain 3 Watch your students’ engagement with the writing process increase when we give students choice and autonomy in their writing topics. Using writing territories, structured conversation, and mentor texts, you will be guided in the writing process without a prompt or 26 lines. PLANNING Domain 1 INSTRUCTION Domain 2 Confession time: "I have tech tools collecting dust in my classroom because I honestly don't know what to do with them! I just don't see how using an IPad or Chromebook is different from using a pen and paper." If you are hesitant to use your tech toys in your ELA classroom, this session is the perfect place to learn how to engage your students in discussion, critical thinking, and deeper reading and writing with digital tools. This is a BYOD session. PLANNING Domain 1 INSTRUCTION Domain 2 When we ask students to analyze a text, they often resort to symbol-hunting, use mnemonic devices to lackluster ends, or just give up and say, “I don’t know what to look for or write about.” The struggle to decode literature is real—and not just for high school students. Professors at the University of Texas at Austin created The Close Reading Interpretive Tool (CRIT) to encourage a detailed, sustained, and careful analysis of text. We tested it, and believe CRIT could be what Pre-AP and AP students need to “get” lit! Summer reading can be the gateway to igniting passion for reading throughout the school year. Will it be difficult to plan lessons and projects to supplement summer reading now that virtually every student will have read a different book? The answer is no! Come discover how to support students and teachers with exciting and meaningful extension activities for summer reading selections! |
